Landslide derails train in Italy leaving nine dead

Own choice

A landslide has derailed a train in north-eastern Italy, killing at least nine people and injuring about 30. The accident occurred in a mountain valley near the winter sports town of Merano, close to the Austrian border. Trees prevented the train plunging into a river. Officials say the landslide may have been caused by a leaking water pipe further up the hillside. The authorities say the mass of water, mud and rock came without warning, burying the regional train as it passed through the alpine valley. Nine people were killed. The train driver is understood to be among the dead. The most seriously injured have been taken by helicopter to nearby hospitals.

My opinion

I think it's really something that has happened. There was no report received. It is really that there are 9 deaths. I am glad that the train fell into the river and that it was stopped by a few trees. On the internet there is a site where you can watch a movie about the train. You see on the movie the train completely in ruins around it all light and light mud. I hope that more deaths will not fall because there were also many wounded. I hope this does not happen again.

Cows into Burgers

food

Hamburgers is the famous food in America.

A hamburger is not made of ham but of ground-up beef, shaped into a patty, which is then grilled and placed between the two halves of a sesame seed bun. In giant feedlots up to 100,000 cattle eat grain from concrete troughs, along with a cocktail of anabolic steroids and growth hormones. According to a recent study by the US Department of Agriculture, these crowded conditions are a breeding ground for infectious diseases. Many feedlots are owned or controlled by the four giant meatpacking firms that slaughter 84% of the USA’s cattle. Eric Schlosser do the dirty and dangerous job of Meatpacking who investigated slaughter houses for His book Fast Food Nation. The meat in a single fast food hamburger could come from dozens, or even hundreds of cows.

My opinion

I eat a burger now and then so am not a vegetarian but I did not know how the cows were brought to life. If you buy a hamburger, you never know of course whether this cow has had a good life but now I also know that hundreds of cows can sit in a hamburger. I self prefer to eat meat that has had a good life but in the Mac Donald, you can not see if the burger you're going to eat this one has had good life. I think animals should be given more freedom before they are killed and not kept in small cages.

The buddha

culture

It’s about Buddhism. The history of Buddhism is the story of one man's
spiritual journey to Enlightenment, and of the teachings and ways of living that developed from it. Siddhartha Gautama is the Buddha by finding the path to Enlightenment. Many views differed on the birth of Gautama Siddhartha's life date. Historians have dated his birth and death as circa 566-486 BCE but more recent research suggests that he lived later than this, from around 490 BCE until circa 410 BCE. He was born in Nepal. Siddhartha's searched for a way to escape the inevitability of death, old age and pain. Siddhartha finally achieved Enlightenment and became the Buddha.

My opinion

The piece was about Buddhism. I have chosen this piece because I actually knew almost nothing since. I find it very interesting piece. I understand now where Buddha comes from and what it means for religion Buddhism. In my own Buddha statues is nice but I never knew its significance. Now I know that it all turns to Siddhartha Gautama. This piece was not really about Buddhism itself but more about the Buddha. I do not myself believe in Buddhism. I do believe in God.

Sven Kramer mistake hands 10,000m gold to Korea's Lee

Sport

Korea's Lee Seung-Hoon won the men's 10,000m after Dutchman Sven Kramer was disqualified for a lane violation. Kramer, who won the 5,000m title, was quickest by more than four seconds, but was thrown out after he skated on the inner lane instead of the outer lane. That gave the title to 5,000m silver medallist Lee, 21, in a new Olympic record of 12 minutes 58.55 seconds. Russia's Ivan Skobrev was promoted to silver and the Netherlands' defending champion Bob de Jong won the bronze. When Dutch coach Gerard Kemkers told him the news after he crossed the finish line in what would have been a new Olympic record time of 12:54.50, he threw away his sunglasses. Kramer said after a miscommunication with his coach caused him to change lanes at the wrong time"I wanted to go on the outer lane then just before the cone Gerard shouted 'inner lane"

‘I'm really happy that I'm one of the first Asian skaters to win this race,’ said Lee. ‘I don't think I will be able to sleep now that I have the gold medal.’

My opinion

I am very sorry for Kramer that he missed his second gold medal, after winning the 5000 meters. I watched the race life on the television at home and I was very disappointed. He skated very well during his race and because of miscommunication with his coach Gerard Kemkers he took the wrong lane. After finishing he heard of the mistake he made, and he was very furious. The only positive thing about this was Bob de Jong’s bronze medal, otherwise he was on the fourth place. It’s good for Lee that he is the first Asian skater who wins a gold medal on the 10,000 meters.

News

In Madeira was on Saturday huge emergency weather. Everything was taken away by the water. The Portuguese military has sent specialist rescue teams to the island of Madeira, where at least 40 people are known to have died in rainstorms. Flooding the streets of the regional capital, Funchal, and other towns. Officials fear the death toll could rise. A Portuguese Navy ship, with a helicopter has departed to Madeira. Officials say the extra emergency teams being sent include 56 military rescuers with search dogs and 36 firefighters. Funchal was among the worst affected areas. The UK foreign office said a small number of British nationals were being treated in hospital. British holidaymaker Cathy Sayers told the BBC Funchal was like a ghost town. The government is particularly concerned by the residents of the Nuns Valley - an isolated mountainous region that rescue workers have been unable to reach.

There is no danger of a repeat of the flash flood.

My opinion

I’m so sorry for the people who live there. Everything is taken away by the flood and I think that is takes a long time till everything is back to normal. On the internet there is a site where you can watch a movie about the rainstorm.

You can see on the movie, cars taken away by the flush and trees being damaged. It’s also a big problem for the tourisme. Many people who have planet to go to Madeira for a holiday will probably go somewhere else. I hope that there will be help and everything will built up soon.
